7 Tips for the Best Selfie Poses
Selfies are pretty much part of our daily routine thanks to social media. After getting the right look (outfit and makeup on point, of course), finding some amazing light, and a great scene, taking quick self-portraits should be an easy task, right?
In a lot of cases, getting the right photo is harder than it looks.
Here are 7 ways to get amazing selfie photos.
1. Relax and have fun.
Allow your attitude and environment to drive the photo. We've all seen photos when the selfie stance appears forced or unnatural. You can even sense when someone is trying too hard to grin. Just relax and take the photos! Think about something that actually makes you smile, since this will produce the appearance of true enjoyment in your photograph. Oh and don’t be too critical of yourself in the photo—we often are way too hard on ourselves.
2. Express yourself.
The finest selfie positions express how you're feeling, your attitude, or your personality. Maybe you're drowsy and comfy, or maybe you're extroverted and noisy. Choose a selfie position that matches your current feelings and identity.
The more thought you put into it, the better your selfie photo will be. But that doesn't mean that it is required to think long and hard about your photos. Sometimes a spur of the moment idea or candid shot will work just fine.
3. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
We all tend to know our angles, being knowledgeable about what works and what doesn't. But you may surprise yourself with a new take on something you’ve done time and time again. Experiment with a variety of poses and expressions, old and new. You may come across a new favorite!
4. Pose in a place with good lighting.
Beautiful lighting equals a more attractive selfie. Great lighting is essential to great photos. How can you tell if the lighting is flattering on your face? Place the phone in front of your face and rotate the camera to view yourself. Take a look at where the light and shadows fall on your face. Turn 90 degrees now. Keep an eye on the lighting and shadows until you find the position that works best for you.
5. Angle your shots.
Hold your phone to the side instead of in front of you for a perfect angle. Also, capture full body, mid body, and close-up shots for some variety.
6. Raise your head from your neck.
This contributes to the appearance of a longer neck and a sharper jawline. You may also pull your shoulders down to appear more comfortable.
7. Exhale through your lips while relaxing your mouth.
Whether you keep your mouth open or entirely closed in your selfie, blowing air between your lips before you take a photo stops your mouth from seeming stiff in the photo.
Selfies are fantastic entertainment and a terrific method to hone your posing and self-portrait techniques. Try unique selfie poses to stray from the norm and evaluate which ones work best for you.
Always keep in mind that practice makes perfect! Find the poses that suit you the most! Your Instagram feed will soon be filled with images of you enjoying your best life!
